About David Hosking
Travel professional David Hosking is the global managing director at Contiki Tours International Limited, where he is responsible for the International programs offered by the world's largest travel company geared for the 18-35 year old age group. Mr. Hosking also holds multiple positions with The Travel Corporation. He is originally from the Bay of Islands area of New Zealand. Attended boarding school in Auckland and then attended Canterbury University to study agriculture. Through a curious chain of events arising from his love of travel, he began working with organized tour groups and was subsequently hired by Contiki Tours as a driver and tour manager in Europe. This position worked well with his interests in history and other cultures. Later he organized and operated overland programs from Europe to India for Contiki that included travel in Iraq, Jordan, Afghanistan, Nepal and Iran. He spent three years running those trips as well as filling the position of Contiki's European training manager. When political unrest precluded further safe travels on the India overland trips, he opened new tours in New Zealand and Australia. His next position with Contiki took him to the US when he became President of its North American division. Four years later (1987) he took over as Managing Director of Contiki Europe and moved to the UK. In 1989 Contiki was purchased by Trafalgar Tours and in 1991 Mr Hosking became the Global MD for Contiki.In 1996 Mr Hosking moved to Geneva to live where he resides today
On Board at The Travel Corporation
In the year 2000, David Hosking joined the board of The Travel Corporation, the holding company for the Group’s many well-known travel brands. Contiki Holidays is just one of the 25 brands that promote first class hotels, boutique accommodations, adventurous river cruises and organized travel companies that cover the world's most popular locations. Other companies included in TTC's family of tour operators are Trafalgar, Brendan Vacations, AAT Kings, New Horizon Holidays and Aussie Adventure Holidays.
David Hosking was born in 1953 in Whangarei, the most northern city in New Zealand, the furthermost commercial area of the Northland district and a region which boasts outstanding seashores and backdrop. Today Hosking has made his home, together with his family, in the historic district of Nyon in Switzerland, bordering with France and situated on the shores of Lake Geneva. Nyon is positioned around 25 kilometers north east of the center of Geneva which makes easy access to the Geneva office of TTC, where Hosking carries out the role of Managing Director at Travcorp S.A. the Swiss based company which manages many of the TTC’s Group European functions with a staff of 50.
Contiki's Participation in The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation
A non-profit Swiss based Foundation formed by The Travel Corporation, The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation was formed to help the Group more effectively target its conservation efforts, specifically in the areas of sustainable and environmental sensitive tourism. The Corporation Foundation via the key Brands in The Travel Corporation actively support high profile projects co-ordinated by leading 3rd party experts.
As President of The Conservation Foundation, David Hosking takes an active role in project selection and works with the Conservation Foundation advisors to manage in excess of the $2 million donated by the Conservation Foundation to-date. In honor of Earth Month 2011, Contiki collaborated with the daughter of Jacques Cousteau, Celine Cousteau, to educate travelers and touring staff concerning environmental risks affecting the marine ecosystems. Contiki is actively involved in developing ways to protect marine life by sending young environmentalists to work hands-on with barrier reefs and by supporting research that Oceana is doing in regards to the Mediterranean.
